We gave league leaders a shock when we took a first half lead at Celtic Park. Although we eventually lost 2-1 and are now relegated after 9 successive seasons in tier 2, we showed, for the 3rd match running, after their two goalless draws, a determination to fight to the end which included denying former striker Alex Bonthron a goal to add to the six he has scored since signing for Cambrian in January. Alex had the first two chances of the game when he was clean through on goal but screwed his shot wide of the post and next saw his shot on the turn saved by Iwan Hooper. Iwan then made a good save from a Dylan Edwards shot. Our first chance fell to Andrew Larcombe who shot over the bar. On 33 minutes we took the lead. Jiffa Powell strode forward and placed an inch perfect pass into the path of Evan Maidment whose shot was parried by keeper Morgan Davies but Evan followed up with a precise shot into the corner of the net for his first goal for the senior team. In the 40th minute Cambrian were level. Frazer Thomas flicked the ball with the outside of his boot into the path of Jack Fox who raced goalwards, evaded a challenge and stroked the ball into the net. Fox was proving to be a livewire for the visitors. His next shot on goal was blocked and then he drove the ball across the goal and it was scrambled clear. Alex McDowell shot wide from distance in a rare Celtic attack and in the 51st minute Cambrian took the lead. Dylan Edwards received a throw on the right and crossed the ball into the 18 yard box. The ball was half cleared to Josh Allen to score. Alex Bonthron shot over the bar. Cambrian had the ball in the net but the ‘goal’ was disallowed and Cambrian played out time to register their 18th league game without defeat (15 wins 3 draws) since losing to arch-rivals Trefelin BGC in October.
