Men’s 1st Team Through to the next round of the FAW Amateur Trophy.

Cwmbran Celtic produced their best performance of the season on Saturday, putting seven past Penygraig United to move into the second round of the FAW Amateur Trophy.

It was effectively over inside half an hour. Rudi Griffiths opened the scoring on seven minutes and Munya Mabwe doubled the lead on 19, both created by Cameron Jenkins, before Louis Cochrane made it three on 28. Arthur Furness added a fourth on 37, set up by Oliver Berry.

Furness turned provider after the break for Griffiths’ second on 63, and the substitutes finished the job. Cameron Dean, introduced on 40, scored on 73, and Daniel Camaj made it seven on 78 — a third assist of the afternoon for Jenkins.

Skipper Terry Obeng made way for Kian Saunders at the break, with Evan Maidment also coming on for Elliott Hewings on 64.

Penygraig had the final word through Finlay James in stoppage time, but by then the tie was long settled. Referee Darren Adie booked five visiting players and not a single Celtic man, in front of 40 at the Motazone.

It is Celtic’s first cup win of the season, after exits from the Welsh Cup and the League Cup, and their biggest win of the campaign so far.
