Match Report
Our match at Ynyshir Albions was a 6-pointer between the League’s bottom two teams and it was the home side who won the crucial spoils with a narrow 1-0 win to pull 6 points clear of us. Our winless run now stretches to 17 games.
The pitch was in poor condition, full of ruts but both sides managed to create chances in an even first half. We had 2 shots on target, both blocked, Ynyshir had two shots saved by Lewis Watkins and one shot blocked. In the 2nd half Josh Gibson brought a great diving save from keeper Harry Webber but in the 58th minute Ynyshir took the lead when a long ball down the middle by Cory Morgan was met by a 50/50 challenge between striker Calum Salter and ‘keeper Watkins. Salter got his foot in first. The ball struck the Lewis’ leg and fell kindly in front of Salter who tapped the ball into the empty net.
In the 79th minute Josh Gibson drove in on the left and brilliantly rode two challenges to shoot and the ball was adjudged to have been handled by a defender. Andrew Larcombe hit the post with his spot kick and the ball was cleared for a corner. This was Celtic’s 4th penalty miss of the season in addition to having lost on penalties in two cup competitions.
