Match Report

We slumped to our 3rd cup defeat this season and their 10th cup defeat in succession over the past 4 years, at Cardiff Draconians, newly promoted to Cymru South, whose management team included former Celtic players, manager Nanah Baah and coach Dan Buttle.

Celtic started the game in a positive manner and in the 8th minute they won the ball high up the field and Jac Evans hit a screamer from 25 yards to put them ahead. Celtic pushed for the next goal and the hosts started to get back into the game towards the end of the half and were unlucky on two occasions not to equalise.

Two mistakes in the opening 7 minutes of the 2nd half resulted in the Draconians scoring twice to take the lead, Luke Ewan Evans and Liam Mallam scoring. The game then opened up with Draconians having the better chances.  In the 65th minute we equalised. After a shot from Jac Evans was saved Josh Gibson was on hand to score. On 71 minutes the Draconians were in front again, Luke Ewan Evans hitting his 2nd goal from an assist by Jamal Roberts. In the 88th minute we were awarded a penalty. However, the spot kick by Jac Evans was saved by teenage keeper Harry Noaks. On 90 minutes Daniel Bowen made the game safe for the hosts from an assist by ex-Celtic player Sam Cawley.

There were some positives to take out of the game but mistakes cost Celtic dearly. This was our 10th successive league and cup game without a win eclipsing their previous worst of 9 games without a win in their debut season in the Welsh League Division 3 in 2005/06
