Match Report
We travelled to Clydach Vale under no illusions that a tough task awaited us. Cambrian were already equal top of the table after their 4-0 beating of Treowen Stars and were boosted by six new signings, 3 from Pontypridd and 3 from Llanelli including Liam Eason who won the Cymru South golden boot last season with 27 goals.
We held their own in the opening quarter but went behind in the 19th minute when Jarrad Wright, completely unmarked, headed home Camillo Strinati’s corner. We went 2-0 down on the stroke of the break when a through ball into the box from Woodford was crossed first time by Hillman for Eason to side-foot into the net – a very well-worked goal.
The hosts dominated the 2nd half as we defended stoutly but the pressure told in the closing minutes when Cambrian added 2 more goals. First, in the 83rd minute, a long ball from keeper Davies was touched by Eason into the path of Jacob Jones who easily found the net. Then in time added on this pair reversed the compliment, a poor clearance from Hooper was played forward by Jones to Eason who blasted the ball into the net for his 2nd goal.
Cambrian will assuredly be in the mix for promotion to the Welsh Premier this season. We will be disappointed that our marking was not tighter for 3 of the 4 goals and will be concerned that we were unable to provide Gibson and Fletcher any scoring opportunities up front.
