CELTIC FORFEIT TWO POINTS TO LATE SWANSEA UNI EQUALISER

Oct 17, 2022

Cwmbran Celtic left the field annoyed with themselves for conceding an 89th minute goal and the loss of two points. The goal actually came from a cross which caught keeper Joe Regan in no-man’s land and looped into the far corner of the net.

Celtic got off to a dream start, Tom Meechan working his way forward in the 3rd minute to unleash a superb 20-yard cross shot into the net. Minutes later Sam Powell also found the net, but his effort was ruled offside. Thereafter the hosts had the better of the approach play but had no punch up front, such that Regan did not have one shot to save.

Celtic rarely keep a clean sheet and therefore needed another goal to be sure of the points but keeper Martin kept out shots from Iles (2), Hewitt and substitute Bonthron. Celtic replaced their 3 most prominent players, Meechan (after only 60 minutes), Isaac Powell and Lewis Iles late on, the latter two, presumably in an endeavour to defend their narrow lead. Unfortunately, it didn’t work and they were undone by Nathan Townsend’s late freak equaliser.
