Match Report
Our nearest rivals at the bottom of the table, Ynyshir Albions, completed the double under the lights at Celtic Park to move 12 points clear with a 10 better goal difference which effectively makes the Rhondda side safe from the drop and us almost certain to go down. The visitors were ahead on 4 minutes when Griffiths scored from a free kick taken from just outside the penalty box. Arthur Furness shot just over the bar and Efan Fletcher shot wide. In the 16th minute Cwe were level. Oliver Berry was brought down on the edge of the penalty are and Fletcher stepped up to drive the free kick into the top corner of the net. Andrew Larcombe shot just wide of the far post and a chance for Ynyshir went just over the bar.
In the 2nd half neither side could create clear chances until, in the 72nd minute Griffiths scored his 2nd of the match from a corner. In the 81st minute, the visitors wrapped the game up with their 3rd goal. Harry Webber’s goal kick was helped on by two misdirected contacts by our defenders – a boot backwards and then a head down which Christen Bethell gleefully pounced on to take the ball forward and lob Watkins for the goal. In the closing minutes Thomas Dean shot just wide from 35 yards.
We have 9 games left, six of which are at home but to date we haven’t made anything of the supposed home advantage having drawn 2 and lost 7 of their league games at Celtic Park to date. Efan Fletcher’s goal was his first for the 1st team although he has scored 12 for the Reserves this season.
POM: Efan Fletcher
