Celtic Development were under a new manager, Jack Shephard this season. Initially, they competed in a 5-match qualifying league in which they finished 2nd to enter SWWGL Division 1. This was a big step up for our last season’s Division 2 champions. They were one of only 2 teams (with Barry Town Linnets) who were not a club 1st team. They finished 9th out of 10 teams. Despite their lowly position the team was, to their credit, rarely outclassed. They had their moments – an excellent 4-0 win robbed Llanbradach of runners-up and a 5-1 win in the cup against Pontarddulais from a higher league. The lack of a regular goalkeeper didn’t help particularly as 3 of the stand-ins Teagen, Alex and Anna scored 25 goals between them when they were in the outfield, which they were able to frequent when Aimie Preston stepped in late on. 17-year-old Daisy Thomas, signed from Tranch, was top of the appearances along with Chloe Leonard. Teagen Eley, aged 18, continued to show her versatility on the pitch and in goal. The last game against Trefelin was a family affair – Alex and Georgina Cridland and Mum Louise, plus three Anthony sisters Hayleigh, Sian and Fiona. To close, big congratulations to Jack Shepherd, captain Sophie Hall and all the girls for the way they stuck to the task in a difficult season.
