It is with great sadness that the club has to report the passing of one of its ex-players and Committee members. Anthony Murphy (always known as Tony or Murph) was a goalkeeper who played for the club throughout the 1970s. He was a member of the team that won both the Monmouthshire Amateur Cup and the Monmouthshire Senior cup during the time he was with us.

Tony was a larger than life character and many stories have been fondly told about his time with the club. He was always happy to get his hands dirty and help with the unseen backroom matters that keep any club going and he was our Club Treasurer for much of the time he was with us.
Towards the end of the 70s Tony returned to his beloved Ireland where he became involved again with the Dreadnots Gaelic Football club. Reading the very moving tribute they published about Tony on Facebook, it seems he threw himself 100% into their club as he had with ours.

When he was playing for Celtic, Tony would often leave after our game on a Saturday afternoon and travel to an airport somewhere to catch a plane to Ireland so that he could turn out for the Dreadnots on a Sunday!
Tony was a lovely man and without doubt one of a kind. Clubs like ours and the Dreadnots can’t survive without the Tony Murphys of this world.

Tony leaves behind his wife Bridget and children Sean, Maria, Kieran and Ryan, his grandchildren and of course his brother Pat. Our thoughts and condolences are with them all at this sad time.
