Celtic finished 3rd in the Newport Premier Y, missing out on runners-up on goal difference. They started in fantastic fashion winning 10 and drawing 1 of their first 11 games including defeating eventual champions Caerleon Reserves. On 9 November they were 2nd in the table 2 points behind Caerleon with 2 games in hand. However, Caerleon then inflicted Celtic’s 1st defeat following which Celtic hit a rough patch losing 3 and drawing 1 of their next 6 games. Celtic rallied to finish the season unbeaten in 9 games but they drew 4 of these and this allowed Newport Corries to pip them for 2nd place. Chris Pike was top scorer with 31 goals. His 28 league goals made him the league’s top scorer. Lloyd Perkins made a successful return to Celtic colours from Coed Eva with 21 goals and 17 assists. Another Coed Eva old boy Brooklyn Lee made most appearances with 28 plus one sub. Gareth and Josh Hinwood, father and son, played in the same team against Caerleon. Celtic’s final record: P27 W17 D6 L4 F121 A46 Pts 57. To finish 3rd after having to use 44 players was some achievement by Matt Hewkins and his assistants Alex Pritchard and skipper Evan Prosser.
