Match Report

We took the 3 points in a tough encounter at 2nd placed Pure Swansea through a goal by Lauren Boyd. We were well in control for the first hour but Swansea came back strongly as the game wore on in the 2nd half but the our defence held firm to take the 3 points.

The game started in cold and spiteful rainy conditions. This didn’t deter us and we took the lead in the 10th minute. Boyd got her foot into a poor clearance by Swansea keeper Ellingham. The ball fell to Georgie Cridland who played the ball back to Boyd on the left wing who floated the ball high into the corner of the net – a typical skilful effort by our leading lefty! At the other end of the pitch Swansea had a chance from a repeat of our goal when Baker latched on to a poor back pass and with Amie Preston-Roberts stranded in no man’s land Baker’s shot towards the empty net went well wide. We were winning the territorial battle. Cerys Shipley’s free kick was saved by the keeper. The impressive Georgie Cridland intercepted Ellingham’s clearance and her shot was deflected for a corner, and Ellingham stopped shots from Macey Morris and Eloise Meaney.

Into the 2nd half and having been outplayed for an hour, Swansea suddenly came to life. A long shot hit the post. For us, Morris and Shipley shot wide. Swansea substitute Stokes shot wide and then brought a diving save from Amie Preston-Roberts who next saved from Lee who then hit another chance wide. Fiona Anthony charged down the middle and shot but Ellingham saved and the final chance fell to Davies who shot straight at Amie.

We are in 4th place 2 points behind Swansea and Carmarthen in 2nd & 3rd but with a game in hand & a better goal difference. Our defence is currently the meanest in the league having conceded only 3 goals.
