Celtic went into this game at rock bottom of the league and pointless, so it was viral to come away from the Glassbrook Stadium with at least a point to get things going this season. After some hard work from Simon Berry and his staff during the week, Celtic felt confident to do just that. In their opening league & cup games Celtic had conceded 3 goals in each of the 4 games.
Celtic started off well with some good football and held their own against a side that also had a slow start to their season. Both sides battled it out, but it was noticeable that Celtic’s defensive work in the week was paying off, although Rangers did threaten the Celtic goal on a few occasions. Celtic too showed that they were hungry for the 3 points on offer. And the opportunity for Celtic to take the lead came in the 43rd minute when 17 year old Jude Bull found himself inside the penalty area to blast a right footed shot, under pressure, and find the back of the net to give Celtic the lead at the break.
Half-time: Penrhiwceiber 0 Celtic 1
In the second half Celtic came under pressure as Penrhiwceiber battled to get back on level terms. Celtic defended with countless tackles and headers throughout the half. But keeper Iwan Hooper can put his hand up for a MOTM performance in the Celtic goal with 4 or 5 class saves to keep the hosts at bay. With the clock ticking down very slowly, the Celtic fans were very happy to hear the final whistle at 90+ minutes.
A well earned 3 points for Celtic against a hardworking Rangers team.
