A goal by substitute Brandon Virgo clinched a dramatic 3-2 win for the lads at Glenhafod Park to complete the double over Goytre United which lifts us to 12th in the table. Virgo, formerly a Celtic player, was signed the day before this match from Pontypool Town.
We went ahead in the 18th minute when Gabriel Howells chased back to dispossess a defender; he played a square ball to captain Andrew Larcombe who laid the ball forward into Gabriel’s path and he calmly stroked the ball into the net. On 24 minutes Goytre were level through Bradley who unleashed a left foot drive into the top corner of the net. Celtic had two other good chances in the 1st half, Larcombe’s shot from a cross by Sam Powell was smothered by keeper Williams and Howells latched onto a glorious through ball by Joey Bowen and shot inches wide of the post and crossbar.
In the 2nd half Celtic forged another good chance, Isaac Powell playing Howells down the left. His cross was met by Larcombe who shot just over the bar. On 66 minutes Celtic took the lead. A cross from the right was headed forward by McDowell and Larcombe was quickest to react to prod the ball into the net. Goytre equalised in the 79th minute when Birnage outjumped the defence to head home a cross from the left.
In the 4th minute of time added on, Larcombe found Virgo on the right flank who cut inside and hit a left foot shot which eluded the despairing dive of Williams at the near post for the winner.
We fielded another teenager as substitute: Tom Challenger.
