At a blustery Celtic Park, we put our recent indifferent league form to one side with this win against 2nd placed Pure Swansea, thereby completing the league double over their opposition. After a lacklustre opening 15 minutes, we took the lead. A throw in on the left by Georgie Cridland was flicked on by Fiona Anthony to Casey Daniels who laid the ball sideways for Cerys Shipley to score with a rising shot. Swansea’s first goal-bound effort was on the half hour by Duffy which was comfortably dealt with by Amie Preston-Roberts. Macey Morris was, as usual, causing all sorts of trouble with her searing pace. She latched onto Amie’s long clearance but shot weakly straight at keeper Jess Cooper. She then put Fiona Anthony in whose shot went tamely wide. Then Macey had another shot but once more the finish was weakly hit straight at Cooper. A free kick by Georgie Cridland was flicked on by Fiona Anthony to Cerys Shipley who shot over the bar.
Our sub-standard finishing continued in the 2nd half, Fiona Anthony hitting two soft efforts straight at Cooper. Jodie Challenger arrived late in the box to skilfully hit a first time shot just wide from Georgie Cridland’s corner. Casey Daniels shot over the bar. In the 86th minute we were made to pay for our missed chances when, from a short corner, Swansea teenager O’Sullivan crossed for fellow teen Annabel Stokes to volley the ball into the net for the equaliser – her 15th goal of the season. We weren’t taking this setback lying down. We tore into the Swansea defence. Substitute Gracie Grosvenor played the ball down the left flank to Morris who drove forward and crossed. Grosvenor shot, there was a melee in the 6-yard box, a defender’s clearance and the ball bounced off Casey Daniels over the line. A Swansea own goal made the score 3-1 and we added a fourth when Grosvenor’s through pass allowed Morris to score. The last 4 goals had come in a crazy 5-minute spell. Celtic again showed their strength in depth, Ellie Bidhendy and Jodie Challenger forming a solid central defence in the absence of Eloise Meaney and Abigail Jones.
