Match Report

We quickly settled into this 2nd round cup game under the Llantarnam floodlights and took the lead in the 8th minute when a cross from the right wing by 17-year-old Ffion Evans in her first start for the club was side footed into net by Jodie Challenger. On 21 minutes we were two up. Some simple but effective close passing out of defence ended with Georgie Cridland playing Macey Morris down the left. She strode into the 6-yard box and tapped the ball into the net, injuring herself in the process, to be replaced by Elena Scrivens. In the 25th minute we scored again. A long clearance by Amie Preston-Roberts found Georgina Cridland scampering down the left flank. Her cross looked as though it was overhit but Jodie Challenger chased the ball wide on the right and screwed a superb cross-shot high into the net for her 2nd goal. On 35 minutes Cerys Shipley ran in from the right and hit the post from an acute angle.

In the 2nd half we continued to dominate the game. Georgie Cridland shot just over the bar. Cerys Shipley missed a great chance hitting a long clearance from Amie Preston-Roberts wide of the gaping net and Ffion Evans and Fiona Anthony (twice) saw shots blocked in quick succession by last ditch defending by Llanrumney. The visitors first shot on target was a free kick by Hocking which sailed just over the bar. In time added on we increased our lead to 4-0 with a goal started by a short pass from Amie Preston-Roberts to Cerys Pinchard who played the ball forward to Hollie Channing who put Gracie Grosvenor in to slide the ball between the keeper’s legs. For the visitors Ryan shot over the bar and Lane brought a diving save from Amie. We added our 5th goal when Amie’s long clearance was headed on by Gracie Grosvenor to Lauren Boyd who rode the onrushing keeper’s challenge but she overran and stumbled onto the ball, the momentum of which kept the ball rolling goalwards and Ffion Evans ran in to tap into the unguarded net. This was the 3rd goal which Amie set up from clearances.

This was a very polished performance. We were expecting a tough challenge from the unbeaten Combined League leaders but we played them off the park with some great flowing football. The artificial Llantarnam surface certainly suited our passing game. Manager Georgia Shwartz continues to ring the changes in the starting line up every week with aplomb so that, whatever eleven starts, the girls seamlessly fit into the style of play.
