Match Report

Our 3-1 win against old rivals Cascade YC was enough to qualify us for the knock-out stages of the Adran Trophy in first place in the group table.

We should have taken the lead in the 10^th minute when right winger Macey Morris crossed to Fiona Anthony right in front of the goal but she spooned the chance over the bar. We took the lead in the 10^th minute when Abigail Jones played Macey Morris down the right. She turned in and then floated an inch perfect cross to Fiona Anthony who slammed the ball into the net – an excellently crafted goal. Ellie Bidhendy hit a free kick just wide of the goal. Cascade responded with 3 chances all saved by Amie Preston-Roberts – 2 shots by Ellis Lunn and a lob by Chloe Tilly, tipped over the bar for a corner by Amie.

In the 52nd minute we increased our lead when Fiona Anthony robbed a defender and raced in on goal to slide the ball under the keeper’s body into the net. Boyd and Morris hit shots from distance over the bar. In the 57^th minute a corner by Cerys Shipley was smashed into the net on the turn by Georgina Cridland. On 60 minutes the visitors pulled a goal back when Annaliese Lewis played Erin Parry through the middle to score. Macey’s shot was saved by keeper Chrissy Kidley and a long shot by Parry passed over the bar. In the 74^th minute Cascade missed an amazing chance to reduce the arrears. Parry ran though the middle and passed the ball forward and across the goal to Phoebe Ware to shoot at the open goal but she hit the ball too well and it hit the bar and bounced back into the grateful arms of Amie. Cascade had two further chances, the first by Lunn saved by Amie and the 2^nd by Parry over the bar.

This was another class performance with our front two Macey Morris and Fiona Anthony to the fore, well supported by Ellie Bidhendy. We will however be disappointed with the two occasions when we let the Cascade attack slice open our defence firstly to score and then to miss that gilt-edged chance which hit the bar. For Cascade their midfield maestro Erin Parry had an outstanding game.

We now play Genero Adran Premier side Briton Ferry Llansawel in the Trophy last sixteen next month where we will meet up with former striker Jade Crofts who is Ferry’s top scorer this season with 5 goals in 6 games.
