Cwmbran Celtic Review W/E 24th March 2024

Mar 26, 2024

The 1st team lost at Celtic Park to 2nd placed Briton Ferry Llansawel. Alex Bonthron put Celtic in front with a goal on the stroke of half-time. Ferry scored twice to go 2-1 ahead before, for the 2nd weekend running, Lewis Iles equalised on 90 minutes only for Ferry to score twice in the further time added on to secure the points. A worry for Celtic was defender Callum Hodges departing at half time to join our other front line central defender Harrison Lewis on the injury list. Celtic remain in 10th place 5 points clear of the drop zone.

The Reserves went down 3-0 at Tredegar Town. Celtic drop to 4th in the table.

The 3rd team won an exciting match at Celtic Park in the 2nd round of the Senior Bowl against Newport Civil Service 3-2. Celtic were 2-1 down going into time added on, but Chris Pike grabbed his second goal & Damien Brean scored the winner.

The Youth team won 3-1 at home to Abergavenny Town to stay in 3rd place. Scorers for Celtic were Jesse Jenkins, Jack Prosser and an own goal.

The Women’s 1st team won 4-0 at Caldicot Town. The scorers were Eloise Meaney and teenagers Cerys Shipley (2) & Alex-Marie Bond.

The Women’s Development won 5-1 at Cwm Welfare. The scorers: Kim Harrison (2), Bethan Percival, Teagan Eley & 17-year-old Talya Stokes. This was Kim’s first game for any Celtic side for 5 months. The team stays 4th in the table but with games in hand they have dropped 8 points – the fewest of the top 4 teams so if they have full availability of players they have a good chance of winning the title. They have a crunch game next weekend versus 1st placed Tranch Ladies who beat us 1-0 in January.

Mickey Copeman’s Under 14s won the Gwent County cup final 5-3 at Pontyhydrun against Crumlin. Celtic’s 1st success in this competition since our only other victory in 2011/12 under the managership of Dean Brown.
