Match Report

Matchday Programme

After all the incessant rain over the past two months and the postponement of match after match for the club’s senior teams, our Women took to the field against Cascade YC pleasantly surprised to see the pitch in remarkably good nick, the grass a lush green. Cascade had opened their league campaign with 5 successive defeats which rooted them firmly at the bottom of the league but 3 wins on the bounce in the New Year had moved them up to 6th, one place behind us. In the continued absence of Eloise Meaney, Cerys Pinchard captained Celtic.

We opened the scoring in the 9th minute when Georgie Cridland found the net with a first time shot from Hollie Channing’s corner with the Cascade defence static. Macey Morris burst through the middle and shot, keeper Daisey Evan-Watkins pushing the ball away for a corner. Ellis Lunn shot wide for Cascade. Fiona Anthony shot wide with the goal gaping in front of her. At the other end Aimie Preston-Roberts stuck out a foot to save a goal-bound shot. Hollie Channing hit the bar. Cascade equalised in the 42nd minute through a Chrystalla Moreton penalty when Georgie Cridland was harshly adjudged to have tripped an attacker in the penalty box.

Eight minutes into the 2nd half Cascade took the lead when Moreton scored direct from a corner by Ffionn Simmons – very similar to our goal, this time the Celtic defence stood still watching the action. Fiona Anthony shot wide when faced with a clear path on goal. Channing’s shot was deflected for a corner, then her free kick was easily dealt with by the keeper. Chelsea Cochrane shot over the bar. Cascade had two good chances, the first a shot straight at Aimie and the second a lob which hit the post and bounced clear. In the 84th minute Celtic equalised, Georgie Cridland chased back from the attack over to the left wing to swing a lovely first time cross into the 6-yard box where Casey Daniels showed her class by cooly lobbing the ball into the net for her 7th goal of the season.

We were not at our best tonight notwithstanding that Hollie Channing put in another dominant performance in midfield and Georgie Cridland showed her worth with a goal and assist.
